What is the Shemitah (Sabbatical) year?
The seventh year in every 7-year cycle. Just as we rest on Shabbat, in the seventh year we don't do work related to farming the Land of Israel

Shemitah (the Sabbatical year) occurs every 7th year. Like Shabbat for people, it is Shabbat for the land. In Israel, all agricultural work (plowing, planting, pruning, commercial harvesting) is prohibited. Whatever grows naturally is ownerless and available to all. Debts between individuals are released. This demonstrates faith that God provides, and resets economic inequalities.
