    In detail

On Purim, the Scroll of Esther (Megillat Esther) is read. It tells the story of how Queen Esther and her uncle Mordechai saved the Jewish people from the genocidal decree of Haman, prime minister of Persia. It is the only biblical book that doesn't mention God's name explicitly, teaching that God works behind the scenes of history.
