What happened on Tisha B'Av?
Both the First and Second Temples were destroyed
Source: Taanit 26b
In detail
Tisha B'Av (9th of Av) is the saddest day in the Jewish calendar. Both the First Temple (586 BCE) and Second Temple (70 CE) were destroyed on this exact date. Many other catastrophes throughout Jewish history also occurred on or near this date. It is a 25-hour fast day with restrictions similar to Yom Kippur, and the Book of Lamentations (Eicha) is read.
