Because we count the Omer for 7 weeks from Pesach to Shavuot. On it we celebrate the Sinai revelation when the Torah was given

In detail
Shavuot ('Weeks') gets its name from the 7 weeks counted from Pesach. It celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, the most transformative event in Jewish history. Customs include: studying Torah all night (Tikkun Leil Shavuot), eating dairy foods (various reasons given), decorating homes and synagogues with greenery, and reading the Book of Ruth.
