The sukkah symbolizes the temporary booths (huts) in which the Israelites lived during their 40-year journey through the desert after leaving Egypt. Some opinions say it represents the Clouds of Glory that surrounded and protected them. Living in the sukkah for 7 days teaches humility and trust in God's protection.
