The verse 'Do not cook a kid in its mother's milk' appears three times in the Torah (Exodus 23:19, 34:26; Deuteronomy 14:21). From these three repetitions, the sages derive three separate prohibitions: (1) cooking meat and dairy together, (2) eating meat and dairy together, (3) deriving any benefit from a meat-dairy mixture. This separation is a cornerstone of the kosher kitchen.
