What are the signs of a kosher fish?
Fins and scales
Source: Vayikra 11:9
In detail
A kosher fish must have both fins (snapirim) and scales (kaskasim). Scales must be removable without tearing the skin. Examples of kosher fish: salmon, tuna, carp, tilapia. Non-kosher examples: catfish (no scales), shrimp, lobster, crab (no fins or scales — these are crustaceans, not fish). Swordfish is debated among authorities.
