The Torah contains five books: (1) Bereishit (Genesis): creation, the Patriarchs, (2) Shemot (Exodus): slavery, redemption, Sinai, (3) Vayikra (Leviticus): sacrifices, purity laws, (4) Bamidbar (Numbers): the desert journey, (5) Devarim (Deuteronomy), Moses' farewell speeches. Together they contain 613 commandments and the foundational narrative of the Jewish people.
