Jacob had 12 sons who became the 12 tribes of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph (later split into Ephraim and Manasseh), and Benjamin. He also had one daughter, Dinah. These tribes formed the foundational structure of the Jewish nation.
