The three Patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, are the founding fathers of the Jewish people. Abraham discovered monotheism and established the covenant with God. Isaac represented self-sacrifice (the Binding). Jacob fathered the 12 tribes of Israel. Each embodied a different quality of divine service: Abraham: kindness (chesed), Isaac: strength/discipline (gevurah), Jacob; truth/harmony (tiferet).
