In detail
Brit Milah (circumcision) is the physical sign of the covenant between God and Abraham, established in Genesis 17. God commanded Abraham to circumcise himself at age 99, and all male descendants on the 8th day after birth. This covenant is so fundamental that it is called 'Brit', literally 'covenant', and is considered one of the most important mitzvot in Judaism.
