What blessing is said over Shabbat candles?

'...who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to light the Shabbat candle'

    Source: Shulchan Aruch OC 263

    In detail

The full blessing over Shabbat candles is: 'Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech Ha'olam, asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik ner shel Shabbat.' ('Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to light the Shabbat candle.') This moment of candle lighting is considered an especially auspicious time for personal prayer, and many women add their own silent prayers after the blessing.
