The Sages forbade moving certain objects on Shabbat so a person won't be drawn into weekday activities Muktzeh refers to objects that the sages prohibited from handling on Shabbat because they have no Shabbat-appropriate use and handling them might lead to performing prohibited work. Common examples include: money, phones, pens, tools, raw food that requires cooking. The concept protects the atmosphere of Shabbat — by not handling weekday objects, we psychologically separate from mundane concerns.
