How many meals are there on Shabbat?

    Three meals

    Source: Shulchan Aruch OC 291

    In detail

Three meals are eaten on Shabbat: (1) Friday night dinner: the most festive, with candles, Kiddush, and family singing, (2) Shabbat lunch, after morning prayers, also with Kiddush and challah, (3) Seudah Shlishit (Third Meal), in the late afternoon, typically lighter. Each meal fulfills a separate mitzvah. The Talmud derives the number three from the word 'hayom' (today) appearing three times regarding the manna in Exodus 16.
