What blessing is said before cola? And after?

    Before: Shehakol, after; Borei Nefashot

    Source: Shulchan Aruch OC 204

    In detail

Cola and all carbonated or manufactured beverages that are not grape-derived receive the same blessings as water: 'Shehakol' before and 'Borei Nefashot' after. The rule is simple, any drink that is not wine or grape juice gets 'Shehakol.' This includes coffee, tea, juice (non-grape), soda, and similar beverages. The key principle in Jewish blessings is that the blessing matches the food's origin: earth-grown produce gets its own blessing, tree fruits get theirs, grain products get 'Mezonot,' wine gets 'HaGafen,' and everything else falls under the catch-all 'Shehakol.'
