On weekdays, three prayers are recited: (1) Shacharit (morning): the longest, includes Shema, Amidah, and Torah reading on Mondays/Thursdays, (2) Mincha (afternoon), shorter, includes Amidah, (3) Arvit/Ma'ariv (evening), includes Shema and Amidah. The three prayers were established by the Patriarchs: Abraham: morning, Isaac: afternoon, Jacob; evening.
