When do we say the Shehakol blessing?

The Shehakol blessing is recited before eating any food that does not grow from the ground, this includes meat (beef, poultry, lamb), fish, eggs, milk, cheese, and all dairy products. The logic is that these foods are not direct produce of the earth, so they cannot receive the agricultural blessings (pri ha'etz, pri ha'adama, mezonot). Shehakol ('that everything came into being by His word') acknowledges that God created all things, making it the most universal food blessing.
