What are the Seven Species?

The Seven Species (Shivat HaMinim) are the agricultural products for which the Torah praises the Land of Israel in Deuteronomy 8:8: 'A land of wheat and barley, of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and [date] honey.' These seven hold special halachic status: they take precedence in the order of blessings, and fruits from this group receive the special after-blessing of Me'ein Shalosh. On Tu BiShvat (the New Year of Trees), it is customary to eat these fruits. They symbolize the unique spiritual connection between the Jewish people and their land.
